Another round of bottle cap collecting...

84 white, 44 blue, 15 red, 11 green, 11 black, 7 orange, 6 yellow, 1 purple and 1 pink = 180 caps

and other random items. I did find a few sea beans, but far more bottle caps.

Bottle cap project

I’m a beachcomber; anything along the shore catches my attention. Sea shells and sea beans are what most folks might expect a collector of seaside treasures to be seeking. Most days this would be what you would find in my bag. Over the past few weeks bottle caps have been drifting to my attention.

 I was searching for crafts using recycled materials, during one of these searches a bottle cap basket popped up. My first thought was, how many bottle caps would it take to make such a basket. It might take a while to collect enough caps, maybe weeks. I was not too keen on taking the caps out of a recycling bin from the germ perspective. I certainly come across loads of bottle caps on the beach. I decided to see how many I would find next time I beachcombed.

Well, I did not expect the trove of caps I found on Monday. I met Heather after work, 5:30 ish. We strolled up the beach finding beans along the edge of the wrackline. I decide to pick up caps close to the same size, similar shape and of all colors. The other choice was the way in which I picked them up, I chose to squat or lunge rather than bend over. I felt it would be better aerobically and might as well add a health benefit to this quest. 

We walked more than a mile up the beach from Spanish River Blvd into Highland Beach to the third rock formation on the beach. I collected: 145 white, 72 red, 28 Orange, 12 Yellow, 73 Blue, 21 Green, 6 Purple, 2 gold, 1 silver, 7 black, total = 367 bottle caps in a little over a mile in 2 hours. This just seemed like a crazy number of bottle caps. This quantity filled a 2 gallon bucket.

I walked again on Tuesday and Wednesday, the total is not as high for these walks. I am still cleaning and counting. The quantity is still higher than I would expect.

So I made the basket, see what you think.

I did add a few random items, but it was fun to make.

The sun is just about to let loose of the earth and rise into the sky to start the day.

Its easy to rollover and sleep in. Often I forget how rewarding it is to see the sunrise from the waves enveloped by a warm tropical breeze. This morning instead of rolling over, roll on out right down to the edge of the sea.
